Impact of temperature on the leaching of sulphate, Co, Fe, Mn, Ni and Zn from the Ballangen tailings deposit, Norway: a laboratory column experiment

Abstract Temperature is an important factor affecting the leaching of contaminants from waste deposits, especially in Nordic region where temperature change more drastic than other areas. In this study, impact variation sulphate, Co, Fe, Mn, Ni and Zn Ballangen tailings deposit, northern Norway, was investigated using a column experiment. Unoxidized were fed into four columns, which subsequently put wine fridges set at 5, 10, 14 18 °C, respectively. The columns filled with 600 mL deionized water top every second week. Leachate collected bottom tested for pH, conductivity concentrations , Zn. saturation index ferrihydrite activity Fe2+ leachate calculated PHREEQC. results showed that Mn highest lowest 5 high oxidation subsequent higher temperatures.
